Nina Campbell is delighted to unveil an exciting collaboration with Helen Chislett Gallery, highlighting a curated selection of globally acclaimed artisans and makers. This unique partnership, running throughout London Craft Week 2024 (13-19 May), unites creativity and craftsmanship at Nina Campbell's flagship store in Newson’s Yard on Pimlico Road.

Helen Chislett Gallery has curated a series of works from a series of prominent makers, each known for their work pushing the boundaries of their respective mediums, for a special showcase at the flagship from Monday, May 13th to Friday, May 19th.

Renowned as both a writer and gallerist, Helen Chislett established her online gallery to connect artisanship with clients seeking extraordinary pieces, promoting talented artists and advocating the preservation of artisanal skills. Having known Nina for years through her literary endeavours, Helen visited the new 3100 sq ft pimlico space in Autumn 2023.

The Makers

The showcase features master quiltmaker and founder of ‘Pemberton Qwilts’ Emily Campbell; architectural sculptor MBE Georey Preston who specialises in the historic skill of modelled plasterwork; and contemporary furniture master Tom Vaughan of Object Studio, who seamlessly fuses sculptural aesthetics with functional design; Michèle Oberdieck, a glass artist and designer renowned for her innovative use of colour; Lucille Lewin, a British sculptor born in South Africa, celebrated for her work in porcelain and Matthew Livsey Hammond, known for his bespoke fine metalwork.

Collection Highlights Include: ‘The Darling Quilt’ by Emily Campbell

Emily Campbell unveils three of her signature designs, each with unique charm and featuring meticulous detailing. Among them is the 'Darling' TV Quilt, distinguished by singular words of personal significance adorning its fabric. The three of these beautiful quilts were commissioned by Anya Hindmarch for display at her concept store during London Fashion Week 2023. Emily shares: Nina Campbell has cultivated an extraordinary design-based business for over five decades. Her name evokes memories of my early 20s in the 1980s, strolling along Walton Street, captivated by her enticing window displays. I am thrilled to have my quilts featured in the Nina’s store, nestled among an array of diverse and exquisite pieces – just as they find their place in people's homes - Emily Campbell

‘Cascade Console table’ by Tom Vaughan

The ‘Cascade Console’ table will be showcased in both natural and dark stained wood. The desk's overall form exudes elegance with its sleek and minimalist design. The wood gracefully curves and extends to the ground on both sides, leaving the central space beneath the furniture unobstructed.

‘Dahlias and Roses’ by Georey Preston

Georey Preston unveils four plasterwork pieces. Inspired by the French tapestry chair discovered by Georey at the Victoria & Albert Museum, ‘Dahlias and Roses’ is a bold, expressive piece which conveys the lushness and vigour of flowers at their high summer peak.

‘Eccentric’s Folly’ by Lucille Lewin

Lucille Lewin’s ceramic art explores the collision between nature and humanity. Highly evocative, her seemingly fragile yet forceful organic sculptures assert the resilient energies that power the natural world whilst also revealing the frailties that make it subject to ecological collapse and unthinking human destruction.

Nina Campbell is proud to showcase the work of Matthew Livsey Hammond, who has earned an enviable reputation as a crafter of fine metalwork. The Fern Table is handmade to the highest standards combining traditional blacksmith arts, carving and casting methods and will be on show in antique brass with a beautiful glass top.

‘Heather Distraction Vessel’’ by Michèle Oberdieck Glass artist Michèle Oberdieck’s unique blown glass vessels are inspired by and rooted in botanical themes where objects evolve from biomorphic forms, and movement. For the artist, Glass is both a medium of clarity, and ambiguity. Exploring its capacity to distort, and alter our view.

The collections will be available to purchase in store from 13th - 19th May. The partnership marks a highlight in Nina Campbell’s calendar of seasonal exhibitions, events, and workshops hosted at the flagship store. Throughout the week, the store will buzz with creativity as several makers host demonstrations, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to witness their craft in action. Emily Campbell will be present in-store from 12pm to 2pm every day, meticulously sewing her quilts. Visitors are invited to observe Emily's working methods, gaining insight into the meticulous hours of love and dedication infused into each quilts. Additionally, other esteemed makers, including Michèle Oberdieck, Geo rey Preston, and Tom Vaughan will be in attendance, with more details due to be announced in due course.
